Merit Energy Company is committed to producing oil and natural gas, essential to modern life, in a way that protects our people, the environment, and the communities where we live and work. These ESG responsibilities are embedded in our strategy, business processes, and decision making. Our disciplined commitment begins with senior leadership and board oversight and is embraced by the entire team.
Merit Impact Initiatives:
EMISSIONS REDUCTION
Merit is committed to reducing methane emissions by replacing high bleed pneumatic controllers with low-bleed, zero-bleed, or instrument air units where appropriate. Additionally, Merit will incorporate these changes on all newly constructed facilities and will utilize solar or electrical pumps when possible.
LDAR/OGI
Merit has expanded our LDAR program by increasing the use of optical gas imaging in an effort to reduce emissions even further.
WILDLIFE
Merit is committed to biodiversity, conservation, and protecting natural habitats. We adjust our operations to avoid disturbing the crucial natural environment during wildlife nesting and breeding seasons. In addition, we regularly participate in the environmental improvement of critical species, including recent participation in wildlife corridors in Wyoming, and in all our areas of operational focus.
FLARING
Merit is committed to not flaring natural gas as part of our standard operating procedures. Flaring capabilities are in place for emergencies, safety, pressure relief, or to control emissions only.
WATER INNOVATION
Merit has pioneered the use of a Sulfide Reduction System which allows for surface discharge of fresh water for the betterment of wildlife, ranchers, farmers, and local populations.
Merit is proud to participate with The Environmental Partnership, an organization comprised of U.S. oil & natural gas companies committed to continuously improving the industry’s environmental performance.
Philanthropy is at the heart of our core values. Merit employees actively raise awareness and dollars, and donate time to a variety of causes. The Merit Volunteer Program, an employee led initiative, provides opportunities for involvement impactful to our local community.
