Please fill out the Address Change Form. All persons listed on the account must sign and date this request. You may upload the completed form here or mail to:

Please notify Merit immediately via the Royalty Relations Request Form or the Royalty Relations Hotline, at 972-628-1590, when an owner has died, regardless of whether the account is in the name of one individual person, a husband and wife, multiple owners, or a trust. Include the date of death and payee number, if known.

To transfer ownership from the decedent to their heirs or beneficiaries, Merit may require a copy of one or more of the following documents:

  • Death certificate
  • Last Will & Testament
  • Order admitting the will to probate
  • Letters Testamentary
  • Final order/decree of distribution or
  • A deed from the personal representative of the estate to the heirs.

Merit does not offer direct deposit or electronic funds transfer at this time.

Merit requires a letter from you requesting that your name be changed. Include:

  • A copy of your marriage license, divorce decree, or other valid court documentation
  • A copy of your current driver's license or social security card that shows the name change

If you wish to include or remove your spouse's name from the account, please submit the appropriate legal documentation, such as a deed or court ruling recorded in the county where the properties are located. Name changes will require a new IRS form W-9.

Royalty checks are mailed on the 20th of each month. A check is issued when the owner's account has a balance of at least $100, except when state law directs otherwise. IRS 1099 statements are issued by January 31st.

If you have not received your check by the fifth business day of the following month, contact our Royalty Relations Hotline, at 972-628-1590. Be sure to listen carefully to the menu options, as they have recently changed to better serve you. If you have lost a check, contact our Royalty Relations Hotline or visit MeritEnergy.com to request a lost check affidavit. Once Merit receives the affidavit back from you, the lost check can be voided and the funds included on the next check issued to you.

If you have questions about your check amount, various deductions, production codes, changes in production, etc., please contact Merit immediately via the Royalty Relations Request Form or the Royalty Relations Hotline, at 972-628-1590, and select the appropriate menu option.

If you have a check that is 120 days old, return the stale check to the following address, along with your request for a new check:

The funds will be included on the next check issued to you.

Merit Energy Company does not provide property appraisals. Please contact a certified petroleum engineer, a royalty management company or broker to obtain this valuation.

To transfer your interest to another party, submit:

  • A copy of the recorded assignment or deed which conveys your ownership to another party. This conveyance document must be recorded in the county realty records where the properties are located.
  • An IRS form W-9 from the new owner(s)

To transfer your interest into your trust, submit:

  • A copy of the recorded conveyance document which conveys the property from the current owner of record to the trust
  • A copy of the trust agreement or certificate/ memorandum of trust
  • IRS form W9 for the trust

If the trustee has changed, submit:

  • A copy of the portion of the trust agreement pertaining to the appointment of the successor trustee and their duties and powers
  • The circumstances for the replacement of the trustee, included in writing
